I was trained to be a hunter. Growing up in the nation’s most infamous, violent cult—my job was simple. Track. Kill. Survive.

And that’s what I did… until our leader threatened to kill his own daughter.

Refusing to watch another senseless murder, I did what I was trained to do. I took his life, claimed his land, and set every member free, including her. I only had one goal left. Find the sister I was told was dead.

But being a hunter in the woods is a far cry from tracking a woman in Miami Beach.

I didn’t find my sister.

I found someone else.

3,5 🌟 🌟 🌟 💫

First book about someone’s life after getting out of a ‘cult’ I’ve read.

In general, I’ve liked it. The first 3 chapters I was lije ‘ok I don’t know what’s going on, what’s happening in’ but it was necessary too much action in just a few pages for the story.

Callan’s way to be is marked by his past on the compound and it’s shown perfectly. His sort of robotic way of talking, his behaviour, how he showed his emotions and his empathy. For me, they seemed cute and adorable at times, although in this current era there are things that a woman should not accept. He wasn’t disrespectful to women and when he was (sometimes he didn’t notice he was because he thought how he was acting or what he was saying was normal) he apologised.

Emily is the perfect prototype of what an independent woman is known to be: works and studies, doesn’t needs a man to be complete or to protect her, can speak for herself. Generally, her character was liked but when she doubted herself and the reassurance came from the male part was just a big contradiction. If she thinks she doesn’t need a man to protect her why is she only reassured by one. That is my main problem with her and the book. I believe in strong characters that fight for themselves, even if sometimes they need a push.

Their chemistry was really good and developed in a good way during the book.

Other characters, I liked most of them, but Phoebe (her sister) was a bit insufferable.

Overall, it’s a good book about a taboo topic, cult religions, so go check it out!!!

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.

Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…

But Seriously?

Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.

She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. Wheeler (Review)

Wheeler
Sara Butler Zalesky
Publication date: July 4th 2016
Genres: Adult, Romance, Sports, Suspense

Known as the Ice Queen of the peloton, pro cyclist Loren Mackenzie rarely shows emotion in the heat of competition; she leads her team with quiet strength and determination. But her successes have not come without suffering, and her tragic past is hidden inside tarnished armor.

While out on a training ride with her cycling team near Enfield, England, a chance meeting quickly develops into an unexpected whirlwind romance. But a relationship with an A-list celebrity brings with it the microscope of tabloid-media attention, which expose jealousy and rivalry that threaten to undermine Loren’s leadership of her team.

The new romance also reveals a dangerous obsession, culminating in a terrifying confrontation with someone from Loren’s past. Her injuries not only put her chances at the World Championship in jeopardy but also bring forth memories of a life she had long buried – for good reason.

Can Loren open her heart to the love she has held at a distance, or will her fear ultimately defeat her?

The follow up novel in the Wheeler series is coming soon.

Review:

4+ 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

I’ve been reading Romance for 3-4 years. The first books I got my hands at got me hooked up because of the typical ‘love-drama’ And the interaction between main characters. As I’ve gotten wiser and gain experience I’ve found I need something more from the main characters to trap me into the book and fall into its depths and that’s what has happened with these book. When Unread the blur I was expecting something entirely different. I knew I was going to read about a strong female practicing a not-so-common sport for women. I also found that Loren is more than what she lets people see, and that’s what’s made this book special to me. I saw some resemblance with my own persona.
Then we have Graham, sweet and sexy. The connection between them it’s really powerful from the beginning and we can see how both their characters develop, as a couple but also as individuals.
Best part, this is just the first chapter of the serie. The story just began.

Author Bio:

Sara was born in the wee hours of a November night in New York City. When her family moved to a small borough in northwestern New Jersey, she had little choice but to move as well. Self-sufficiency is a tough thing for a toddler.

The dichotomy of being the middle child of three, but the only girl, was difficult, as typically no one really pays attention to a middle child. Mostly, Sara spent her time creating fanciful stories in her head when she should have been focused on other things, an issue that continues to this day.

Most of these stories have never been shared, let alone completed. This all changed in the spring of 2015, when Sara was encouraged by a friend to expand upon a short story she had accidentally emailed to him. The result is ‘Wheeler’, a romantic, women’s fiction/sport novel, which combines the author’s romantic inclinations and her passion for cycling.

Sara currently resides in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA, with her loving husband and their son. She is a paralegal for a boutique law firm in Chester County, Pa, an avid road cyclist and indoor cycling instructor at a national chain.

Follow the author’s blog at sarabutlerzalesky.wordpress.com or on Twitter @sarazalesky. She does a little dance every time someone ‘follows’ her on Twitter. Really.

Spell Book & Scandal (Review)

Book details:
Spell Book & Scandal
by Jen McConnel
Publication date: October 31st 2017
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Synopsis:

Shelby King is tired of living in her sister’s shadow. Just because Christina is the most powerful caster in school doesn’t mean Shelby’s any good at magic; she’s a scribe, like her mom, and everyone expects her to write spells for her sister, the way her mom always has for her dad. But Shelby’s spells fail spectacularly, and by the time she’s a sophomore, Christina won’t touch them with a ten-foot-pole; their parents aren’t much better. Shelby is fed up, and she decides to show the world she doesn’t care if she isn’t as good as her stuck-up sister, or as talented as their powerful parents. In fact, she decides it’s time to break all the rules, magical and otherwise, and she starts sneaking out to meet Jeremiah Smallwood, the second-best caster in school at illegal pop-up spell battles around town. She may not be able to scribe for him, but she doesn’t mind letting him think that she could; Shelby’s been half in love with Miah as long as she can remember, but he’s never paid attention to her until now, and she’s not going to risk her chances worrying about a pesky thing like the truth. But when Christina rats her out to their parents, Shelby can’t control her anger, and words come pouring out of her that she can’t take back even if she wanted to, threatening Christina’s future…and Shelby’s own chances with Jeremiah. It’ll take more magic than Shelby’s ever dreamed of to set things right, but no scribe has that much magic…right?

Review:

4 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

I don’t usually read paranormal, but I liked the synopsis, so I got the chance to read it in exchange of a review. I’m so happy with my decision because this was a good start for this series.

Shelby is a ‘normal teen’ And goes through typical teen problems, like doubting herself and her abilities, family problems, boy-crush, etc. How she affronted it, her development turn her into a strong girl. She went from rebellious without a proper cause to fighter for a real reason.

Another thing I felt a connection with was the relationship with her sister because I saw similarities with mine with my sister.

Now I’m patiently waiting for the second book.

Lingerie on the Floor (Book Tour)

Lingerie on the Floor

by Amanda Aksel
(The Londonaire Brothers Series, #1)
Publication date: June 28th 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Rated: 4 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Blurb:

I have a passion for lacy designs. But my lingerie business is in trouble. If I don’t find an investor before I return to L.A., I’ll be forced to close my London boutique. The good news is the top fashion magazine wants to feature Kate Golden Lingerie in a double page spread. The bad news—they want me to model my lacy thong.

How can I say no? I care way more about sexy lingerie than I do about love, until him . . .

Drew, the insanely hot photographer I keep crashing into. I can’t help myself. He drove me wild during our boudoir photo shoot. Those eyes. That delicious mouth. The way he feels between my legs when I’m riding on the back of his motorcycle. I know, he’s a rich, bad boy, who only dates models. Sooo not my type. I’m not his either. But we can’t keep away from each other, even when we try . . .

Review

Lingerie on the floor is what you’ll expect of a book with this kind of title: sexy. One of the biggest points is the attraction between the main characters, it’s pure chemistry.

Kate is a lingerie designer, and even though she creates beautiful, sexy pieces for women to feel that way, she doesn’t really feel it. She needs a push to become the woman she really has inside. She is a good role for entrepreneur women, having her own business and taking control of the financial problems herself. She’s not afraid to fight in a men’s world while looking for an investor.

Drew is a fashion photographer but also the youngest son of a ‘royal family’ in London. He’s not what everybody would assume knowing his family background. Passionate about photography, he doesn’t care about his heritage that much. You can see his good heart with a touch of badass. Also, he rides a motorcycle.

They both grow together and make an awesome couple, being strong, intelligent, charismatic, artistic souls.

I recommend this book for those who love a good romance and for those who like the beginning of an interesting series about 3 brothers.

Be aware of the Bonnaire brothers. (Next one is Kent but I can’t wait to read Mick’s story).

Amanda Aksel is the author of The Marin Test Series, a romantic-comedy that follows a couples therapist as she navigates the major stages of her 30’s. Amanda is a maltipoo mom, weekday vegan, astrologer in training, and self-improvement junkie.

EXCERPT:

He caught her wrist as she moved out of his personal space. He had fast reflexes for a guy who had just been struggling to keep his hands interlaced behind his back. “Don’t stop,” he murmured, flashing that megawatt smile again.

She forced a chuckle. “Hey, I charge a lot for private lessons. That’s all you get for a freebie.”

He threw his head back and laughed, a deep rumbling sound that warmed her from the top of her head to the tips of her toes. “Well, how can I go about scheduling one of those privates?”

She looked away, stepping toward the door and forcing him to drop her wrist. “Ah, you know, check with the front desk,” she said vaguely with a laugh.

“Actually, I was hoping for your number.”

“I’m sure you were,” she said over her shoulder.

“Really? You’re just blowing me off, huh?”

She stopped and pivoted. He sounded dead sincere now, which surprised her. “Wow, yeah. About that…I’m, uh, not exactly dating right now.”

Even if I were, I’d stay way the hell away from a player like you.

Her smile wobbled. This shouldn’t be so hard.

He shoved his hands in the pockets of his gym shorts, which few men could pull off and still look manly. He nailed it. She realized with a stab of guilt he was trying to hide the bulge of his erection. “Sure, I get it. No problem.”

Had she actually hurt his feelings? Impossible. He was a player.

She hadn’t meant to be a tease. She ought to be spanked.

By him. Just before he took her hard from behind…
